What type of paperwork will I need to donate my car?
You will need a current and clear title. Any lien holder listed on the title must be cleared and/or released by the bank.
Below are the key requirements and important notes regarding donating a vehicle in Montana:
- You must possess the vehicle's Certificate of Title.
- The title needs to be notarized when you sign it.
- Sign the title on the right-hand side of the front in the presence of a Notary Public.
- Print and sign your name in the seller/owner field exactly as it appears on the title.
- Enter the authorized agent's name in the buyer/purchaser field.
- The signed and notarized title should be available when the vehicle is picked up.
- Regarding release of liability, keep your license plates or surrender them to the state, retain copies of all donation documents, and remove the vehicle from your electronic toll collection account.
